There is something about walking into a mature, well laid out garden that takes one’s breath away.
Coming to Cotswold Farm on a crisp winter morning was no exception. The clipped yews around the neat, rectangular pond, the Cotswold terrace walls and the subdivisions of the garden all speak of plants and materials that were the hallmark of the Arts & Crafts movement. As the months unfold, so do the planting patterns, the clever use of colour, and juxtaposition of plants.
Look out over the terrace in mid summer and enjoy the Jewson Terrace full of colour against the backdrop of Cotswold stone walls and mature trees. The vivid autumn colours are spectacular too!
Will Ridpath, Garden Designer and family friend, worked with staff and family to renew and develop the gardens for the 21st century. His aim is to maintain the style pioneered by Gertrude Jekyll and William Robinson and to replace plants that are past their best and to cut the hours spent in garden upkeep.
The Walled Kitchen Garden is now allotments! Seven different gardeners bring variety and interest.
